Saving Money on Groceries: Low Cost Meat
I thought that today I would share my tips for finding low cost meat at the grocery store:
- Ask someone who works at your grocery store about what day they mark down the prices in the meat section. You can still use marked down meat a week after purchase, or, freeze it, and it will stay good for months. Just make sure you take it out of the original packaging and put it in an air-tight container or freezer bag.
- Buy ground beef instead of chuck and drain off the extra grease.
- Better yet, buy ground turkey. It is several cents cheaper per pound and it is very lean. To give it that beefy flavor, just add beef bouillon to your recipes.
